After work that day Steve went diving into some boxes that he hadn't unpacked since returning from college.

Where are they? I'm sure I didn't throw them away when Jeannie told me there was no way she'd let me use them on her. I think that was what started the end of our relationship. She didn't like to do anything adventuresome at all.

Three boxes later he saw the distinctive leopard print cloth. He reached in and pulled the two sets of fur-lined handcuffs out of the box.

Well, fake fur at least, I don't want to know how much ones with real fur would've cost, he thought. Now where's the silk rope I got to go with these? I think just the cuffs and the rope though, she said she liked being restrained, I don't know how she'd react to some of these other toys.

He closed the box back up and returned it to the stack of them in the basement that were waiting for him to get his own place.

“Steve!” his mom called, “Dinner!”

He slid the toys into a bag and ran upstairs.

“Let me drop this bag in my room and then I'll be down to eat,” he said.

He put the bag on the chair next to his door where he'd be sure to remember it at 'oh-my-god-it's-early' when he would be leaving.

“No, dinner and then to bed. I've got the last day of that temporary job tomorrow morning. Very early in the morning, so I'll just go to bed right away.”

“You know Steve,” his mom said, “you don't have to wear yourself out. You're welcome to stay here as long as you need to.”

“I know that, I just hate being a drain on you guys,” he replied.

Although I hate not having any sort of romantic life even more, he thought. Even admitting that I still live with my parents is enough to drive half the girls I know away, trying to bring them home with me to my parents' house? Not gonna happen.

After the past couple of early days he had no problem getting to sleep quickly. When he woke, there was a moment of disorientation as he looked out the window into total darkness. It took a few seconds before he remembered why he was getting up that early. Once he did he was out of bed in a flash.

The quicker we get the work done, the more time we'll have to play, he thought. So I'll get there early in case Melanie is thinking the same way.

When he parked his car Melanie was just unlocking the back door. He hurried over and was greeted with a smile that warmed his blood.

“A little eager, are we?” she asked.

“The sooner we get to work, the sooner we're done with it,” he said.

“I like that idea. What do you have in the bag?”

“A surprise. For later, after we're done working.”

The smile intensified, with a touch of something more to
